Holiday Hugs and Smiles Abound

A HUGE thank you to everyone who made the holidays brighter for new Americans in Georgia! The season of giving is always a perfect time to collect items and funds to welcome newcomers to the community.

Thanks to all of the generous people, faith partners and community groups for sharing their gifts. You made kids and families smile and you donated critical funds to help support our programs year-round. In December alone, our supporters donated over $60,000! Thank you to everyone who helped make our first holiday season as New American Pathways so successful.

We love new partner Atlanta International Montessori School! Their wonderful parents held a toy and basic needs drive and donated two huge boxes of items right off our wish list to give to new American families during the holidays. One person even went above and beyond and donated a drivable Fischer Price car that made one family’s dreams come true.

Long-time faith partners First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta and Hillside Presbyterian Church continue to share their friendship and generosity with new Americans. These churches have partnered to sponsor a newly arriving refugee family each year for over a decade and they are dedicated to lifetime friendships. Just before the holiday, they delivered presents to the families they sponsored in 2013 and 2014.

Whole communities also get involved in the giving. One example is from Oxford Road near Emory. Organized by Amy Cromwell, this group of neighbors holds a holiday donation drive for household items every year.  Each New Year’s Eve, Katie Hartley hosts another group of supporters in the Candler Park area and all partygoers bring donations for New American Pathways. We love that so many people across Atlanta are helping their communities welcome new Americans.
