Plug In This Holiday Season

If you haven’t been personally called to action for the upcoming holiday season, this is your invitation. As the temperature drops and more vulnerable populations arrive, we need even more support from the community – and that includes the help of volunteers, like you!

Volunteers help New American Pathways make the season a bit brighter for new refugee friends in Georgia. Join us by giving your time, opening your heart, and offering your skills to make sure these new Americans are successful. From being an employment coach, to serving lunch during cultural orientation for new arrivals, there are many with new Americans this holiday season! If you are looking for a way to plug in, are thinking globally but want to act locally, then we have some awesome holiday options for you:

Make it a Family Affair – Want your whole family to get involved in making a difference? Come join our Family Match team and be paired with a newly arriving refugee family! Your family will be their first American friends and meet with them in their home. You’ll offer support through services like English tutoring, conversation practice and grocery shopping assistance. This three-month commitment allows flexible meeting times and a chance to show a new family all things Atlanta!

Give the Gift of Education – In partnership with DeKalb County Schools, we provide an afterschool  and summer camp enrichment program for approximately 150 refugee students at three local schools. Helping a child learn English is just one aspect of this volunteer opportunity. You’ll also become a partner in the students’ overall social, mental and emotional health.

Host a Holiday Donation Drive – A number of new Americans arrive lacking bare essentials, but we can help supplement some of those things with your help. Whether it’s a solo venture to gather items for newly arriving refugees, a peer effort with friends, or an entire neighborhood or community project, we welcome you to shop (and advocate) for donations from our list of most pressing holiday items and our list of fun and impactful items needed for our youngest new arrivals!

Here at New American Pathways, volunteers increase the capacity of our work by helping us to welcome newly arriving refugees into the United States and to begin their individual journeys to success.  Volunteers are the building blocks of the great services we provide. The more building blocks we have, the more work we can do, together. ‘Tis the season for generosity and for welcoming new Americans to their final destination. Come join our team.
