Contact Your Senators to Support Syrian Arrivals

Contact Your Senators!

Tell your Senator’s office that as a constituent, you OPPOSE legislation that would stop or halt the resettlement of Syrian refugees, or only allow Christians to be resettled.

Call or Email:

You can reach out to:

Senator David Perdue at (202) 224-3521 (email: www.perdue.senate.gov/connect/email) and

Senator Johnny Isakson at (202) 224-3643 (email: www.isakson.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/email-me).

What’s Happening:

Last week, before Congress left for Thanksgiving, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 4038, The SAFE Act, which adds more layers to the already thorough vetting process for refugees and specifically targets Iraqi and Syrian refugees.  Your leaders, specifically those in the Senate, need to hear from you RIGHT NOW as decisions are being made on the SAFE Act and other bills targeting Syrian refugees. Now is the time to reach out to your Senators to let them know you support Syrian resettlement to the United States.

A Simple Sample:

Never called before? Not sure what to say? Here’s a very simple example you can use when you call.

“Hi. My name is [NAME], I’m a constituent from [City] and I support Syrian refugees. I am opposed to any proposal that would stop or halt the resettlement of Syrian refugees or only allow Christians to be resettled. I urge the Senator to represent me and other constituents who seek to welcome Syrian refugees. Thank you for your time.”

Here are some additional points you may want to add when you call:

  • The U.S. government handpicks the refugees who resettle here, and the U.S. resettlement process has the most rigorous screening process in the world.
  • Neglecting refugees based on their ethnicity or religion is contrary to the beliefs and values of not only the refugee program itself, but our country as a whole.
  • You can also share your personal story of working with or seeing success in the refugee community in Georgia.
