Donate a Backpack for Refugee Youth

Back to school season is right around the corner! What better way to make sure our youth get off to a great start than by donating a backpack, or two, filled with supplies to get them ready for a great year?

Last year, our students improved by an average 5.8 reading levels – more than a full grade level of reading, putting them closer (and some beyond) reading with their age group.  But it all starts with being prepared and having the right supplies for school.

Also keep in mind, tax-free weekend begins July 30th – a perfect time to grab some extra supplies!

A backpack for a student could contain:

Elementary:

  • 2 composition notebooks
  • 1 package wide-ruled notebook paper
  • 2 spiral notebooks
  • 1 pack of pencils
  • Erasers
  • 1 one-inch binder
  • 2-pocket folders (multiple)
  • 1 12”in plastic ruler
  • 1 package of highlighters
  • 1 pack of glue sticks
  • 2 packs of crayons, markers or colored pencils
  • 1 pair of safety scissors

Middle School:

  • 1 composition notebook
  • 2 package wide or college- ruled notebook paper
  • 3 spiral notebooks
  • 1 pack of pencils
  • 2 one-inch binders
  • 1 package of black pens
  • 1 package index cards
  • 2-pocket folders (multiple)
  • 1 Protractor, ruler and compass
  • 1 package of highlighters
  • 1 calculator (non-graphing)
  • 1 package of crayons, markers, or colored pencils
  • 1 package of red pens
  • 1 small planner

You may drop off backpacks at our reception desk, or call ahead if you have a large donation to give to be sure someone is ready to greet you.
